The London Borough of Hounslow is a London borough in west London, England, forming part of Outer London. The borough was established in 1965, under the London Government Act 1963, by the merger of the area of the former Brentford and Chiswick Urban District, Feltham Urban District and the Heston and Isleworth Urban District of Middlesex. It borders the boroughs of Richmond upon Thames, Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hillingdon, along with the Surrey borough of Spelthorne. The local authority is Hounslow London Borough Council.
In line with population estimates in the middle of 2014, the borough has a permanent population of around 265568 individuals.
The Great West Road, which crosses the borough from Chiswick to Heathrow, formerly served nationally and globally well-known manufacturers such as Firestone, Gillette and Coty. Because of this, the borough became referred to as the 'Golden Mile'.
