Sandown is a seaside resort and also civil parish on the south-east shore of the Isle of Wight, UK with the resort of Shanklin to the south as well as the negotiation of Lake in between. Along with Shanklin, Sandown develops a built-up area of 21,374 residents. The northernmost town of Sandown Bay, Sandown is known for its stretches of conveniently obtainable, sandy shoreline. The resort's coastlines run continuously from the cliffs at Battery Gardens in the south to Yaverland in the north. The town expanded as a Victorian resort bordered by a wide range of natural attributes. The coastal and inland locations of Sandown become part of the Isle of Wight Biosphere Reserve assigned by UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in June 2019, as well as Sandown's sea front and clifftops develop part of the Isle of Wight Coastal Path. The Bay that gives Sandown its name is an exceptional instance of a concordant shoreline with a total amount of 5 miles of strong tidal coastlines extending right from Shanklin to Culver Down as a result of Longshore drift. This makes Sandown Bay home to one of the lengthiest unbroken coastlines in the British Isles. To the north-east of the community is Culver Down, a chalk down available to the general public, mostly possessed as well as taken care of by the National Trust. It sustains common chalk downland wild animals, together with seabirds as well as predators which nest on the adjacent cliffs. Neighboring are Sandown Degrees in the flood plain of the River Yar, one of minority freshwater wetlands on the Isle of Wight, where Alverstone Mead Citizen Nature Reserve is a preferred place for birdwatching. Sandown Meadows Nature Reserve, obtained by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Rely On 2012, is an area to identify kingfishers as well as water voles. Additional inland, Borthwood Copse provides fascinating timberland walks, with bluebells aplenty in the Springtime. The location's marine sub-littoral zone, including the reefs as well as seabed, also has the wild animals designation Special Area of Conservation. At extreme low tide, a petrified woodland is partially revealed in the northern part of the Bay, as well as pieces of petrified timber are typically washed up on the coastline.

FAQs

How long does it take to install one small double glazed window?

To install one small double glazed window, it will take anywhere between two hours and half a day. It will depend on whether one installer is fitting your window or two. And if you’re doing it yourself and don’t have any professional experience, it will take even longer.

When the window fitters arrive, they will make sure they’ve got safe access to the window and move any heavy furniture if they need to. Any good installer will lay down a dust sheet, but it’s a good idea to check that they’ve got one laid down before they start.

The first step any window installer will take is to double check the measurements of the new frame against your existing one. Hopefully it should match up, so then they’ll take the old window out. Then, they’ll insert the new frame into the aperture and bolt it into the concrete. They'll check it with a spirit level to ensure it’s even before moving onto the glass sealed unit.

The installer will place the glass into the aperture, then fit the beads to secure the glass in the frame. They’ll then use silicone and trim on the inside and outside to ensure the window looks perfect. You won’t be able to see where they’ve used sealants or trims because they’ll colour match them so it’s not noticeable. Then, they’ll tidy up all of their tools and the working area and let you know what needs to be done in terms of proving that the window meets building regulations. Most good installers are registered with a self-certification scheme, so will be able to issue a certification once the work is complete.

How much is a single window?
Sometimes accidents happen, and that leads to you needing to replace just a single window. Luckily, most window fitters are happy to replace just one window if you need to. But how much a single window costs will depend on a few factors. Firstly, do you need the entire window, including the frame, replaced, or just the sealed unit? If the frame is still in good condition, glaziers and some window installers can replace the sealed unit and this will set you back around £250. If your window frame is damaged, don’t try to get away with not replacing it. Having a broken window frame can let heat escape your home, increasing your energy bills, and you’re likely to hear more traffic noise. Plus, if the frame is broken you might have trouble closing the window properly, stopping you from keeping your home secure. So how much is a single window if you need the whole thing replaced? You should expect it to cost between £400-£550, but it could cost more or less than this depending on your location, the size of the window and how tricky it is to replace. There are other factors that will impact the cost of replacing a single window. Do you want the window to have plain, leaded or Georgian bar glass? Maybe it will be a casement window, or a bay, bow or sash? The cost will increase if you want more than one opener if it’s a large window, and if you want it to have locks. Also, the standard white uPVC frame colour will probably be included in the price, but if you want a woodgrain look or a different colour uPVC this will cost more.

Why are double glazed windows better than single glazed?

Double glazed windows are better than single glazed generally because they are more energy efficient. The clue’s in the name – double glazed windows have two panes of glass while single glazed windows only have one. In double glazed windows, there is a space between the two glass panes. This space is filled with inert gas or a tight vacuum, which helps to provide an extra level of insulation. That means that heat won’t escape your home easily, nor will it creep in, so you can keep your home at a more comfortable temperature.

The extra pane of glass also helps to increase your home’s security. Single glazing is pretty easy to smash through, whereas it will take much more effort to smash double glazing and will create more noise, so burglars might be put off.

Another reason why double glazed windows are better than single glazed ones is that they help to reduce noise. Of course, if you live by a busy road you’ll still hear some traffic noise, but it can be significantly reduced buy double glazing. In the same way that the inert gas in the middle of the two panes keeps heat in and the cold out, it also helps keep noise out.

With double glazing, you’ll also notice much less condensation. With single glazing, it’s common to see condensation on the inside of the windows, especially when the heating is on. This is because the outside of the window is cold, but the inside is warm. With double glazing, the insulation between the two panes stops there being such a difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the window.

How much does one double glazed window cost?
How much one double glazed window costs is based on a few factors. If you just want to buy the window to install yourself, it will cost less than if you want an installer to fit it for you. If you want to simply buy one double glazed window without installation it could cost anywhere between £100-£300. That’s for a simple casement window, but other types like sash or tilt and turn windows could cost more. It’s recommended that you get a reputable installer to fit your double glazed windows because they’ve had the relevant training and will be able to install it much more quickly. How much it will cost for them to install one double glazed window will very based on your location, the type of window, how difficult the window is to access and whether you choose standard white uPVC or a coloured or woodgrain effect. An average uPVC casement window might cost somewhere between £300-£400, while a dual turn window might cost between £550-£660 to install. Do you really need to replace the entire window? If it’s just the double glazing that needs replacing, for example if it’s misted up inside, this will cost much less. Most window installers or a glazier will be able to just replace the sealed unit inside, and that may cost as little as £250. It’s always best to get a range of quotes from reputable companies so you know you’ve got a great price and you’re sure you’ll get excellent service.
