Bognor Regis

Bognor Regis is a seaside resort town and civil parish in the historic county of Sussex on the south coast of England. It is administratively in the Arun district of the non-metropolitan county of West Sussex, and suburbs of the town consist of the villages of Felpham, Alwick, and North and South Bersted. Even though the town experiences an oceanic climate which is similar to the whole of the United Kingdom, it has over 1900 hours of sunshine typically, which is the highest identified annual level of sunshine in Britain. Its coastal location also prevents extreme temperatures. Since 1960, the temperatures recorded at Bognor have never dropped below -9.4 Celsius or risen above 31.5C, in comparison with other locations within the Sussex Weald dropping beneath -15C and rising above 35C. From 1864, numerous wealthy Victorian households appeared in the town and a seaside resort was subsequently created by Sir Richard Hotham. Since the start of the 1930s, an amusement park along with a zoo have been open in the area, and a vacation camp in the 1960s has led the town towards extra hotel accommodation with contemporary amenities. The population of Bognor steadily increased over the course of the 20th century, being at roughly 64,000 in the 2011 census. The post-war period saw partial industrial redevelopment, particularly in the 1960s just after the building of a new shopping parade, health centre and high-rise block of flats. The town centre is largely pedestrian friendly, creating an extremely accessible purchasing experience for the town's inhabitants and tourists. For all your property upgrades be sure that you choose vetted professionals in Bognor Regis to ensure you get the top quality service.

FAQs

Will a new double glazed window look different to existing ones?

It depends on a few factors whether a new double glazed window will look different to existing ones. If your existing windows are very old, perhaps 10 years or more, then it’s likely that there will be some small differences.

The first thing to remember is that your double glazing is exposed to the elements as soon as it’s installed. So over time, unless you’re very good at cleaning and maintaining your windows, they’re likely to look a bit dirty. Window frames that are south-facing may also become slightly discoloured from the sun, so if you install a new window right next to it you might notice a difference.

Also, there have been lots of technical advances in windows over the years. If your existing windows are significantly older, you might notice a difference in the handles on openers, and if your existing windows were installed before 2010 they might not have trickle vents, which is an extra strip on the inside of your window to keep air flowing through your home. While it’s not a legal requirement for replacement windows to have trickle vents if the original one didn’t, it’s a good idea to have them installed as they help prevent condensation and mould.

The only truly noticeably different elements to a new double glazed window compared with existing ones are likely to be on the inside, which might not be a problem for you if you only have one window in a room. However, if you know the brand of your existing windows, you can ask your window installer if they can source the same ones. Even if they’ve been updated slightly, the difference should be minimal.

How much does one double glazed window cost?
How much one double glazed window costs is based on a few factors. If you just want to buy the window to install yourself, it will cost less than if you want an installer to fit it for you. If you want to simply buy one double glazed window without installation it could cost anywhere between £100-£300. That’s for a simple casement window, but other types like sash or tilt and turn windows could cost more. It’s recommended that you get a reputable installer to fit your double glazed windows because they’ve had the relevant training and will be able to install it much more quickly. How much it will cost for them to install one double glazed window will very based on your location, the type of window, how difficult the window is to access and whether you choose standard white uPVC or a coloured or woodgrain effect. An average uPVC casement window might cost somewhere between £300-£400, while a dual turn window might cost between £550-£660 to install. Do you really need to replace the entire window? If it’s just the double glazing that needs replacing, for example if it’s misted up inside, this will cost much less. Most window installers or a glazier will be able to just replace the sealed unit inside, and that may cost as little as £250. It’s always best to get a range of quotes from reputable companies so you know you’ve got a great price and you’re sure you’ll get excellent service.

How long does it take to install one small double glazed window?

To install one small double glazed window, it will take anywhere between two hours and half a day. It will depend on whether one installer is fitting your window or two. And if you’re doing it yourself and don’t have any professional experience, it will take even longer.

When the window fitters arrive, they will make sure they’ve got safe access to the window and move any heavy furniture if they need to. Any good installer will lay down a dust sheet, but it’s a good idea to check that they’ve got one laid down before they start.

The first step any window installer will take is to double check the measurements of the new frame against your existing one. Hopefully it should match up, so then they’ll take the old window out. Then, they’ll insert the new frame into the aperture and bolt it into the concrete. They'll check it with a spirit level to ensure it’s even before moving onto the glass sealed unit.

The installer will place the glass into the aperture, then fit the beads to secure the glass in the frame. They’ll then use silicone and trim on the inside and outside to ensure the window looks perfect. You won’t be able to see where they’ve used sealants or trims because they’ll colour match them so it’s not noticeable. Then, they’ll tidy up all of their tools and the working area and let you know what needs to be done in terms of proving that the window meets building regulations. Most good installers are registered with a self-certification scheme, so will be able to issue a certification once the work is complete.

Why are double glazed windows better than single glazed?

Double glazed windows are better than single glazed generally because they are more energy efficient. The clue’s in the name – double glazed windows have two panes of glass while single glazed windows only have one. In double glazed windows, there is a space between the two glass panes. This space is filled with inert gas or a tight vacuum, which helps to provide an extra level of insulation. That means that heat won’t escape your home easily, nor will it creep in, so you can keep your home at a more comfortable temperature.

The extra pane of glass also helps to increase your home’s security. Single glazing is pretty easy to smash through, whereas it will take much more effort to smash double glazing and will create more noise, so burglars might be put off.

Another reason why double glazed windows are better than single glazed ones is that they help to reduce noise. Of course, if you live by a busy road you’ll still hear some traffic noise, but it can be significantly reduced buy double glazing. In the same way that the inert gas in the middle of the two panes keeps heat in and the cold out, it also helps keep noise out.

With double glazing, you’ll also notice much less condensation. With single glazing, it’s common to see condensation on the inside of the windows, especially when the heating is on. This is because the outside of the window is cold, but the inside is warm. With double glazing, the insulation between the two panes stops there being such a difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the window.
