At WAKE Conservation we have a passion for old buildings and believe that the most sustainable approach to construction projects and the wider built environment is working with and re-using existing buildings. Existing buildings, whether historic and listed or from more recent times, retain an embodied energy, are often full of character and possess many qualities worth saving. They also help to tell the story of our society to future generations and often hold rich histories of the people who built, lived or worked in them. By adopting a mentality that through the use of innovative design solutions buildings can be re-invented, re-invigorate and ultimately re-used for whatever purposes you can image, the neglected or derelict building becomes a place of possibility and opportunity. Where some people see only ruins we see only potential.
