Stump grinding describes the process in which the stump of a tree that has been felled is disposed of. Generally during tree felling a few inches of the trunk and the root system are kept in the earth, making the surrounding area impractical to use together with possibly enticing bugs or harbouring tree diseases such as honey fungus. If your back yard has stumps in the ground, having them removed could open up the area, offering added space to broaden your lawn size or produce fresh spaces to install patio or decking. Professional stump grinding firms can remove stumps of any proportion.

The process commonly demands slicing the stump as close to the ground as possible using a chainsaw, and then utilising specialised stump grinding equipment to grind away at the stump. Stumps are ground down to around 10-12 inches underneath the soil surface to permit planting, however in some instances landscaping projects may require the stump to be removed deeper than this. The wood chipping that is produced by the stump grinding could be either infilled back into the hole and used as compost in other areas of your garden, or the stump grinding company can remove it and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner. Additionally, many professional stump grinding companies have specialist small machines that may be used if there is limited access to your garden for example, via a side alley.
