Abbots Langley
Abbots Langley is a large village and civil parish in the English county of Hertfordshire. It is an old settlement and is named Langelai in the Domesday Book of 1086. This village has had a lengthy history of productive human inhabitation. The first indications of human inhabitation in the region were discovered by distinguished archaeologist Sir John Evans. The village sits on a saucer of clay covered by a layer of gravel, and consequently water supply has never been a problem; records demonstrate that in the past water could be drawn from a well just twenty feet deep. Economically, the village is closely linked to Watford and was previously part of the Watford Rural District. Since 1974 it has been included in the Three Rivers district.
