Thornhill
Thornhill is a town in the Mid Nithsdale area of Dumfries and also Galloway, Scotland, south of Sanquhar as well as north of Dumfries on the main A76 road. Thornhill sits in the Nithsdale valley with the Carsphairn as well as Scaur array to the west and the Lowther hills to the east. It was initially a small town, prepared as well as built in 1717 on the Queensberry Estate when driving linking Dumfries to Glasgow. The Earl of Queensberry at first called the town 'New Dalgarnock' however the name did not attain preferred approval. The community is largely made up a grid pattern with the primary street of Drumlanrig Street (the A76), East as well as West Morton Streets, New Street, Townhead Street and Gill Road (the A702). The community is near Drumlanrig Castle, a 17th-century turreted manor once the ancient Douglas fortress, now home to the Duke of Buccleuch as well as Queensberry. The grounds consist of Tibbers Castle which was founded in the 12th or 13th century. The most just recently published Census data from 2001 places the population at 1,512 residents.
