Faringdon
Faringdon is a historic market community in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 kilometres) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 kilometres) north-west of Wantage and also 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a big church, its lowest parts including the River Thames in the north and its highest ground reaching the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost community in Berkshire up until the 1974 border changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The civil church is officially Great Faringdon to distinguish it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census offered a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was given Fairtrade Town status, as the first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which aids as well as advises companies in rural west Oxfordshire.
