Strathaven
Strathaven is a historic market town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland and is the largest settlement in Avondale. The town was approved a Royal Charter in 1450, making the Community of Strathaven a burgh of barony. The existing estimated population is 7,500. The town lies on the edge of the strath of the Avon Water, around 6 miles (10 km) from Hamilton and 18 miles (29 kilometres) from Glasgow. The A71, which links Edinburgh and Kilmarnock travels through the town. In the 2001 demographics the town had a population of 7,700. Strathaven has one high school as well as 3 primary schools - Kirklandpark Primary, Wester Overton Primary, as well as St Patrick's Primary. It also has a lawn landing field concerning 2 miles (3 kilometres) to the north west on Lethame Road.
