Hinton St George
Hinton St George is a town and parish in Somerset, England, located 3 miles (4.8 km) outside Crewkerne, 10 miles (16.1 kilometres) southern west of Yeovil in the South Somerset district. The town has a population of 442. It has a wide major street lined with hamstone homes, some thatched. The village has a thriving store. The village does not rest on a major road, and also has a few holiday homes and 2nd residences. The parish was part of the numerous Crewkerne. Much of the growth of the village happened under the lords Poulett expanding their large house as well as estate (Hinton House). By the 1560s the 3 open arable areas had been enclosed and two large estates of 74 and 68 acres (280,000 m2) created, based on the currently disappeared district of Craft. The park consisted of deer and also orchards, with cherry trees. The town cross is an 8 feet 2 inches (2.49 m) high cross with a tapering octagonal shaft on tipped octagonal base. It is an arranged monument as well as Grade II * listed structure.
