Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to construct the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name originates from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains each hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are four trains per hour. The railway station was openedto stimulate the building of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed several people.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are hardly any buying or leisure opportunities within the town, so individuals normally go to surrounding locations using public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is house to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
