Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established just after the sale of land in 1881 to build the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name hails from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains per hour throughout the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains each hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the creation of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed several people.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, one of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are few shopping or leisure opportunities in the town, so people often go to surrounding places working with public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is residence for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
