New Flat Roof in Droitwich

Do you have a flat roof that needs repairing in Droitwich or maybe you are thinking about changing your existing roof into a flat design. Regardless of your needs, be sure to use our simple and fast quote service to receive the best prices for the work you would like.

Pitched roofs have always been commonly seen across the country, but now it seems the flat roof is growing in popularity. There are some significant reasons for this as well, including the fact they're less expensive to have constructed and are far better for energy efficiency, saving you money on energy expenses.

What's more, the flat roof is ideal for being resistant to the flippant climate conditions the UK is known for. The style of roofing may also be coupled with almost just about any material too, depending on your requirements and existing house.

If a flat roof sounds like something you might benefit from, why not review quotes using our quick and simple online service. We'll match your particulars with trustworthy roof companies within Droitwich who will visit your property and give a no cost quote for the work.

The work itself can take several weeks to finish, all according to the size of your home. Of course, if it's a repair job this can take significantly less time.

Droitwich

Droitwich Spa is a town in the north of the county of Worcestershire. Located on the River Salwarpe containing large deposits of salt, the extraction of salt has been an exploit taking place ever since the ancient period. The natural Droitwich brine includes two and a half pounds of salt per gallon, which is 10 times stronger than sea water. In the 19th century, John Corbett, the son of a Black Country barge owner, established the town's spa facilities after the decline of the salt industry. The Droitwich Spa Lido was a particularly popular leisure destination, which was developed in the 1930s as a public outdoors salt water swimming pool. Although the Lido was closed in the late 1990s, remodellings in 2006 making it possible for the resuming of the centre in the summer of 2007 has permitted the Lido to continue as a satisfying and desirable amusement. Droitwich is within Wychavon, a local government district that was the only area in the Midlands to appear in the Halifax 'Quality of Life Survey' in 2011, which was ranked as 6th overall. A variety of leisure activities are available for the growing 22585 citizens recorded in the 2011 census. This includes the opportunities offered by the Droitwich Canal Network for walkers and cyclists, the multitude of independent and high street stores, along with various markets regularly taking place in the town. Festivals happen throughout the year, and performances can be seen all year round at the Norbury Theatre. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of reputable contractors in Droitwich Spa to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

how to replace flat roof felt?

How To Replace Flat Roof Felt

Also referred to as tar paper, roofing felt is installed underneath the roof’s shingles to help deny water access to your home. Installing the roofing felt in overlapping layers builds a water barrier in situations whereby the weather damages or blows away the shingles. Although the application of a roofing felt on a flat roof is relatively easier and safer than working on a peaked roof, it’s advisable to take enough care and precautions. If you lack proper training and experience for this task, we’d recommend you employ a reliable professional to guarantee the best results and save you from further headaches especially in cases whereby unfortunate errors are made. This step by step guide will give you a good insight into the flat roof felt replacement process.

    • Take a measurement of the width and length of the roof.

    • Calculate the square footage by multiplying the numbers.

    • Multiply the square footage gotten by three (it’s advisable to install three layers of roofing felt to create a really strong weather barrier).

    • Use a claw hammer to remove the existing roofing felt.

    • Use utility knife to cut the new felt to fit the length of the roof.

    • Place the first piece along the roof’s edge and use a hammer tacker to tack the felt in place with staples or galvanized nails and hammer.

    • Put the staples or nails at every 6 inches along the side touching the roof’s edge as well as down the short sides.

    • Repeat the same process for the second piece, laying it out beside the first row of felt.

    • Cut a piece of felt to the appropriate length using a utility knife to begin the second layer of roofing felt, and cutting it in half, lengthwise.

    • Apply construction adhesive along the first row using a trowel.

    • Press the first piece for the second layer onto the adhesive. Repeat this process until the roof is covered with a second layer

    • Apply construction adhesive over the second layer to install the third layer. Begin with a full piece of felt without cutting it in half.

    • Overlap each piece by 2 inches until you’ve completely installed the third layer.

How can I maintain my flat roof?

You should inspect your roof twice a year, ideally after rain or snow, to see if it’s draining properly. Also in the Spring to check for damage that may of been caused over the winter months that will need to be put right before the next winter. Have an inspection carried out if you are unsure.

how much is a new flat roof?

How Much Is A New Flat Roof

What is a home without a roof to keep out the elements? Being the first line of defence against intense sun, rain, wind and more, implies they require enough care and attention to keep them in a top condition. Therefore, whether you need a new flat roof or just to replace some tiles, you’d be interested in knowing how much it would cost you to get a new roof before you start making the necessary plans. Here, we’ll give you an idea on the cost of a new flat roof and how you can estimate yours based on your unique requirements.

The size of your roof as well as the material to be used are the two main determinants of any flat roof project’s cost. For instance, a four bedroom detached home’s slate roof will be more expensive than a felted flat roof for a small or standard garage. Generally, in the UK, the average cost for replacing a flat roof will range between £5000 to £6000. However, if you’re on a tight budget and looking for the cheapest possible option, you’ll get a felt flat roof only on a garage at about £1000 to £1500. Meanwhile if you want to replace the entire slate tiles of a large family home, the cost can jump up to a range of £11000 to £13000.

Other factors that plays a key role in the determination of a new flat roof’s cost includes the location, labour as well as materials. For instance, a new flat roof price is likely to be higher in London and the south east than the other regions of the country. Also, labour may cost you around £150 to £250 per worker on a daily basis.

    What is overlaying?

If your existing roof is still in good condition but the membrane is getting old, it’s often not worth exposing the structure to the weather whilst the contractor strips off the old membranes. The contractor will leave them in place to act as a base layer for a new roofing system. As long as there are no other problems with your roof, then overlaying is a good way to replace your flat roof.If you have any more questions about flat roofing that aren’t listed here, fill out our form to ask a contractor.
