Commercial rooftops might be needed for a number of reasons, especially if the current roofing is in need of repair or it's going to be installed on a brand new build.

There are several factors which will play a role in the look and preparing of a new commercial roof and the cost will all be determined by the size and style you choose.

Thermoplastic roofing is especially popular. This sort of roofing is made from a sturdy material with high temperature tolerance. The material is a favourite for commercial rooftops as it's resistant against ultraviolet and chemical exposure. The roof structure will last more than two decades, with a great resistance for fire, punctures and high wind loads.

You can also contemplate EPDM roofing. The durability and flexibility of EPDM roofing can make it a popular material in the commercial roofing world. These kinds of roofing materials have the benefit of being easier to install, sustain and repair too, adding to their popularity.

Buxton

Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire. Due to its location on the border of the county boundary, with Cheshire towards the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is generally known as 'The Gateway to the Peak District National Park'. Originally a municipal borough, Buxton joined other locations in 1974 to establish the local government district and borough of High Peak inside the county of Derbyshire. At 300 metres above sea level, Buxton is believed to be England's highest market town. This height means that the town is often cooler than nearby areas, with the daytime temperature being about 2 degrees Celsius lower than the temperature in Manchester. Found on the River Wye and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, Buxton is historically a spa town due to the geothermal spring that rises at a continuous temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The water from the spring flows to St. Ann's Well through a pipe system which is situated opposite the Crescent close to the town centre. Buxton reached a lot of recognition when the spa was recommended by Erasmus Darwin to Josiah Wedgwood in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The water from the geothermal spring is also bottled and sold on an international scale by Buxton Mineral Water Company. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the population of the town is 22,000. The town has seen continued growth since the coming of the railway in 1863. There is also a relatively prominent student population, with the Devonshire Campus of the University of Derby being in 1 of Buxton's historic buildings. For all your home upgrades, ensure that you select reliable specialists in Buxton to make sure you get a great quality service at the best price.

FAQs

How much does it cost to replace a commercial roof?
How much it costs to replace a commercial roof depends on the type of roof you have and the size of your commercial property. Lots of commercial buildings have flat roofs, which are often made from felt, asphalt, EDPM rubber or fibreglass, while others are pitched roofs that might be made from tiles, shingle or metal. It’s likely that your commercial roof will need replacing if it’s more than 25 years old. A roofer can carry out an inspection to determine what, if any, work is needed, but there’s a high chance that you’ll need a roof replacement if it’s that old. If your flashing is looking worse for wear or you’re missing a number of tiles or shingles, it might be time to replace your commercial roof. So how much does it cost to replace a commercial roof? If your commercial roof is pitched, expect to spend between £4,500 and £7,500. It all depends on how large your property is and how easy access is, as the more scaffolding you need, the more it will cost. If your commercial property has a flat roof, the average cost would be approximately £4,500. Again, it all depends on the material, access and how large the roof is. Felt costs between £40-70 per square metre, while fibreglass costs between £80-110. Whatever type of commercial roof you have or what it’s made from, make sure you get a few quotes from reputable roofing companies so you know that the job will be done well.

How much does it cost to replace a commercial flat roof?
If your commercial flat roof needs replacing, how much it costs will depend on how big the roof is and what you want it to be made from. Lots of commercial flat roofs are made from felt or asphalt, but people are also beginning to turn to materials like EDPM rubber and fibreglass. Flat roofs can last a long time, but if it’s been 20 years or more since you had it replaced or inspected, it might be time for a new one. If a roofer inspects it and finds lifting, flashing problems, sagging or lots of blisters, it’s probably time to replace your flat commercial roof. So how much does it cost to replace your commercial flat roof? The average cost is around £4,500, but it could be much less or much more. It depends on how big your roof is and what material you choose. Felt is the cheapest material you can use for your commercial flat roof, at around £40-70 per metre squared, while a lead bay roof will cost the most at £90-110 per square metre. EDPM rubber and fibreglass roofs are being used more and more because they’re so durable, and they will cost between £80 and £110 per square metre. It might be worth spending a little more upfront to get a stronger and longer-lasting commercial flat roof.

What is commercial roofing?

Commercial roofing simply refers to any roofing work, including installation and repair, that is done to commercial buildings. This might include office roofs, shop roofs or commercial unit roofs. Every building needs a roof to keep out the rain!

Since looks aren’t usually the first priority with commercial buildings, lots of commercial properties have flat roofs. These are often made from felt, EDPM rubber or fibreglass. Felt is the cheapest commercial roofing material, while fibreglass tends to be the most expensive. In felt roofs, roofers use an adhesive to stick roofing felt onto a frame. EDPM rubber roofs have a rubber membrane that is laid down and glued onto the roof and coated with a contact adhesive, while fibreglass uses a cut glass fibre mat that is pressed on before a resin and topcoat are applied.

Not all roofing companies will offer commercial roofing services, because generally the buildings tend to be bigger. Small companies won’t have enough tradespeople to work on a roof without making it very expensive for you. Commercial buildings also tend to need more scaffolding to make it safe for the professionals to work, so some smaller roofing companies won’t offer commercial services. Make sure you check a company’s website or social media if you’re looking for commercial roofing – on the Quotatis Directory, our roofers will show whether they do commercial roofing to make your search easier.

How long does it take to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property?

How long it takes to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property will depend on the size of your roof and how difficult access is. Corrugated iron roofing sheets are much easier to fit than other roofing materials such as clay tiles or EDPM rubber, so that will work in your favour.

The size of the team of the roofing company you engage will also make a difference. If they have a lot of tradespeople working on your roof with lots of experience, it will take less time, while if there are only a couple of people it will take longer.

Another thing to bear in mind when considering how long it will take to fix a roofing sheet is the weather. If it starts to rain, the contractors will probably have to stop and wait, as the roof will be too slippery to work on.

In general, it should take between 1 and 3 days to fit roofing sheets on a commercial property. If you’re not having a full roof replacement, it may only take one day, whereas a completely new metal roof could take up to 3 days.
