Wigton

Wigton is a market community in Cumbria, England. Historically in Cumberland, it exists simply outside the Lake District in the borough of Allerdale. Wigton goes to the centre of the Solway Plain, between the Caldbeck Fells as well as the Solway coastline. It is offered by Wigton train station on the Cumbrian Coast Line, and also the A596 roadway to Workington. The community of Silloth-on-Solway exists twelve miles to the west, beyond Abbeytown. Wigton today is a thriving market town, with livestock auctions being held on a regular basis at Hopes Auction Company. The major employer is Innovia Films. The town has its very own senior high school, called The Nelson Thomlinson Institution, which is a well-performing comprehensive with close links to the Innovia factory. In 2004 the town was the very first settlement in the United Kingdom to apply a curfew on teenagers under the age of 16. It remained in place for two weeks, and its aim was to lower the amount of criminal damage in the community centre. It complied with nightly vandalism projects, which included shattered store fronts, along with intimidation of elderly participants of the area. The curfew attracted nationwide focus, with the local secondary school obtaining gos to from companies such as Sky News. It had some effect, with much less criminal damage occurring ever since.
