Welshpool
Welshpool is a town as well as community in Wales, traditionally in the area of Montgomeryshire, however currently carried out as part of the unitary authority of Powys. The community is positioned 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) from the Wales-- England boundary and also low-lying on the River Severn; its Welsh language name Y Trallwng means "the marshy or sinking land". Welshpool is the fourth largest town in Powys. In English it was originally called Pool but its name was altered to Welshpool in 1835 to identify it from the English community of Poole. It has a population of 6,664 (United Kingdom Census 2011), consists of much Georgian style and is simply north of Powis Castle. The local economic climate is largely based upon agriculture and regional industry. The Smithfield Livestock Market is the biggest one-day sheep market in Europe, whilst the community's industrial estates are home to countless various sorts of tiny industry. As a result of the community's small dimension and population the destination of high street shops is limited, suggesting a number of the residents are compelled to go shopping in neighbouring towns like Newtown as well as Shrewsbury.
