Tywyn
Tywyn, previously meant Towyn, is a community, area, and also seaside resort on the Cardigan Bay coastline of southern Gwynedd, Wales. It was formerly in the historic region of Merionethshire. It is popular as the location of the Cadfan Stone, a stone cross with the earliest known example of written Welsh, as well as the residence of the Talyllyn Railway. At the time of the 2001 census, 40.5% of the population were recorded as Welsh audio speakers. By the 2011 census this had reduced to 37.5%. These reasonably high numbers (provided the town's population density) mirror the use of both Welsh and English as the medium of instruction in Ysgol Penybryn, the community's primary school. An Estyn inspection report in 2010 kept in mind that about 11% of the children at the institution came from residences where Welsh was the major language.
