Badminton
Badminton (population 271) is a village and civil parish in Gloucestershire, England. It includes Great Badminton and Little Badminton. In 1612 Edward Somerset, fourth Earl of Worcester, purchased from Nicholas Boteler his mansions of Great and Little Badminton, called Madmintune in the Domesday Book while one century earlier the name Badimyncgtun was recorded, held by that family members since 1275. The village houses the Battle each other of Beaufort's house, Badminton Home, which has been the principal seat of the Somerset family considering that the late 17th century. Badminton House likewise provides its name to the sport of badminton. The village is famous for its horse tests, which occur in early May annually in the grounds of Badminton House.
