Are you considering a loft conversion in order to open space in the house and steer clear of the requirement to relocate? Then use our totally free and easy service to compare prices to get the top cost for the work you want carried out.
Loft conversions are proving to become ever more popular in the UK. In most properties the attic accounts for unused space which could go to better use. Converting can transform the space into a bedroom, bathroom, playroom or even ensuite bedroom.
In fact there's plenty of potential to transforming your loft, such as added value for the home which can be up to 20%. Loft space conversions are also encouraged over a house extension for the reason that infrastructure has already been in place. Plus, you won't be removing any garden space.
If the loft space conversion would benefit your property and you're interested in more space, contrast prices from reputable companies in Cheddar and get the best offer for the work you need completed.
The regular cost of a Loft conversion is £25000. Costs differ based upon the materials and the firm selected. The upper price range can be as high as £28750. The material costs are mainly approximately £6250

Cheddar is a huge village and civil parish in the Sedgemoor area of the English area of Somerset. It is located on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills, 9 miles (14 kilometres) north-west of Wells. The civil parish consists of the communities of Nyland as well as Bradley Cross. The church had a population of 5,755 in 2011 and also an acreage of 8,592 acres (3,477 ha) as of 1961. Cheddar Gorge, on the northern side of the village, is the largest gorge in the UK and also includes a number of program caves, consisting of Gough's Cave. The gorge has actually been a centre of human negotiation since Neolithic times including a Saxon palace. It has a warm environment and supplies an one-of-a-kind geological as well as organic setting that has been acknowledged by the designation of several Sites of Special Scientific Interest. It is also the site of numerous sedimentary rock quarries. The village provided its name to Cheddar cheese and also has actually been a centre for strawberry growing. The crop was previously transported on the Cheddar Valley rail line, which closed in the late 1960s yet is currently a cycle course. The village is now a major vacationer destination with numerous cultural and area facilities, including the Cheddar Show Caves Museum. The village supports a variety of neighborhood groups including religious, showing off and also social organisations. Several of these are based on the site of The Kings of Wessex Academy, which is the largest instructional facility.

There’s a huge range of different types of loft conversions. The most common are dormer and skylight or Velux conversions. There are also hip to gable and mansard conversions. The type of loft conversion that’s most suitable for your property will depend on the style of roof and the size of your loft.
When its impossible to build out and create more space sideways, why can’t you look upwards? As more and more homeowners in the UK are carrying out their loft conversion project, one question that keeps popping up is the amount of value the loft conversion can add to their homes. However, this is a question that is impossible to provide a single and precise answer to. This is because the value that’ll be generated by a loft conversion is largely dependent on a wide range of influencing factors. To give you a vague idea of the loft conversion value to a property, we’ve put forward a research carried out by industry experts so you can know what you’re in for.
Nationwide carried out a research which shows clearly that a loft conversion including an additional bedroom as part of the building plan will increase a house’s value by up to 21 percent. Since the number of rooms a house has is one of the main metrics for house valuations, loft conversion comes in pretty handy as it’s a great and easy way to convert your house from a 4 bedroom house to a 5 bedroom house prior to sale.
Apart from the financial value aspect, loft conversion also adds more value to your lifestyle which is very unlike nearly other financial investments you can make. More space in your house automatically means more storage or a new room as you wish. A new room can be for a growing family or probably to serve as a guest room. It can also be used as a study space or even an office especially with the rapidly growing rate of people working from home. With loft conversion, the possibilities in terms of value are simply endless!
Typically, loft conversions do not require planning permission except in certain situations. They’re usually covered under what’s known as Permitted Development. Certain building works like loft conversion, rear extension and conservatories are granted planning permission by local authorities. Permitted Development, however, gives you a free range to improve your home without having any issues from the councils or regulations. Before your planned loft conversion can be covered under Permitted Development, there are some certain criteria that must be met. This criteria includes the following:
✓ The extension must not go beyond the existing slope of the roof at the front of the house.
✓ The loft space converted must not go beyond 40 cubic metres in a terraced house.
✓ The roof’s height must not be increased by the extension.
✓ The loft space converted must not reach beyond 50 cubic metres in a detached or semi detached house.
✓ The plan for the extension mustn’t involve structures like balconies, verandas or anything other structures of this nature.
✓ The roof extension should be positioned as far back as possible or at least 20cm from the existing eaves.
✓ The side that faces the window openings should be at least 1.7m beyond the floor and the windows should also be obscured.
✓ The roof extension must not overhang the existing roof or wall of the house.
✓ The materials that are to be used must be similar or the same to the materials that has already been used on the house’s exterior.
However, you should bear in mind that there are some properties that are exempt from Permitted Development. Examples of these type of properties include conservation areas, Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage sites. Permitted Development does not also provide coverage for listed buildings.
Many types of loft are suitable for a loft conversion. In general, you will need at least 2.3 metres of headroom in your existing loft. This is to make sure there is enough headroom after the conversion. Speak to a conversion specialist about the probability and possibility of doing this in your house.
