The London Borough of Hounslow is a London borough in west London, England, forming a part of Outer London. The borough was created in 1965, under the London Government Act 1963, by the merger of the area of the former Brentford and Chiswick Urban District, Feltham Urban District along with the Heston and Isleworth Urban District of Middlesex. It borders the boroughs of Richmond upon Thames, Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hillingdon, and also the Surrey borough of Spelthorne. The local authority is Hounslow London Borough Council.
Based on population estimates in the middle of 2014, the borough has a permanent population of about 265568 inhabitants.
The Great West Road, which crosses the borough from Chiswick to Heathrow, formerly served nationally and globally well-known manufacturers like Firestone, Gillette and Coty. Because of this, the borough became known as the 'Golden Mile'. A couple of of these factory sites remain, such as Gillette Corner, and also the Great West Road is still residence to numerous prestigious names, supplying them with simple non-motorway access between Slough, London Heathrow Airport and Central London. Other notable landmarks include Osterley Park, Gunnersbury Park, Syon House, the London Museum of Water and Steam, and Chiswick House.
