Like numerous of the Forest of Dean towns, Mitcheldean was a close-knit community with specific traditions. One of these was the locally famous (or well known) Mitcheldean Prize Brass Band. It is clearly recalled and explained in a narrative by Arthur Bullock, a resident of close-by Longhope, whose papa and also brothers remained in it. Recounting the band's exploits, he comments, 'I just want I can have been blessed to listen to the Mitcheldean Prize Brass Band play when all of the players were totally sober at the same time'. Nonetheless, it is without a doubt sobering to review his further representation that the band need to have been 'killed off by the 1914-18 war'. In the 20th century the town expanded better because of the Ranking Xerox copy machine factory. Although this market significantly decreased during the latter fifty percent of the 20th century, much of the previous Rank Xerox site (currently Vantage Point Business Village is currently inhabited by local business, brand-new production as well as distribution companies.
