Johnstone

Johnstone is a town in the council area and county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is set 3 miles west of Paisley, 12 miles west of the centre of the city of Glasgow and 12 miles north east of Kilwinning. Comprising a section of the largest conurbation in Scotland, Johnstone rests on the western edge of the Greater Glasgow Urban Area. Johnstone was a planned community, which formed around the house of Easter Cochrane, now known as Johnstone Castle. Construction commenced in 1782 when the Laird George Houston approved styles for a variety of residential seats forming the town centre. The building of two similar civic squares, Houstoun Square and Ludovic Square, and the town acquired its parish church by 1794. Coal mining began to bring wealth to Johnstone in the 19th century, with the population increasing to 5600 in 1831. Such a development in population meant the increase in slum conditions until the advancement of an area of the town to incorporate a large amount of purpose-built residential estates, taking place in the 1930s. Much of Johnstone's history until industrialisation has faded away, with Johnstone Castle ending up being derelict after the last Laird died in 1931. The town's population of 15687 is well-connected to the rest of Scotland as a result of its proximity to efficient transportation links. A dual carriageway joins Johnstone to the M8 motorway for transportation connections to central Scotland, and the town contains two train stations with regular trains to Glasgow Central, Paisley and the Ayrshie Coast. Those wishing to take a trip more afar are 3.5 miles away from Glasgow International Airport and 40 minutes away by train from Prestwick International Airport. For all your home upgrades, make certain to make use of trusted contractors in Johnstone to make certain of quality.
