Battle
Battle is a village and civil church in the city government area of Rother in East Sussex, England. It lies 50 miles (80 km) south-east of London, 30 miles (50 kilometres) eastern of Brighton and also 20 miles (30 kilometres) east of Lewes. Hastings is to the south-east as well as Bexhill-on-Sea to the south. Battle remains in the designated High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is a vacationer location as well as traveler town for white collar workers in the City of London. The parish population was 6,048 according to the 2001 census, raising to 6,673 with the 2011 Census. Battle is the site of the Battle of Hastings, where William, Duke of Normandy, defeated King Harold II to come to be William I in 1066.
