Controlling the way your house is heated is among the better ways to lower expensive energy expenses and leave you with much more disposable income at the end of each month. In fact, 60% of your power bill is from heating the household, so it's definitely a good place to start.
With the proper controls you'll have the ability to keep your house at a comfy temperature, while simultaneously not losing additional money on fuel. You'll also be able to keep your household carbon dioxide emissions down as well.
The good thing is, heating control systems can be used with just about any boiler, regardless of model or age. This suggests there's a saving to make if you go out there and get it.
By installing a heating management system you will save in between £70 and £150 year after year. In addition there are a lot of CO2 emissions to be lowered also and you may cut between 310kg and 630kg yearly.
Also look at the temperature you have your thermostat set on. By simply turning it down one degree, you can save around £75 each year and won't feel a difference in temperature either.
The typical cost of Heating control system is £300. Costs differ based upon the materials and the tradesman selected. The upper price range can be as high as £345. The material costs are normally about £75

Attleborough is a market town and civil parish between Norwich and Thetford within Norfolk, England. The parish is inside the district of Breckland and has an area of 21.9 square kilometres (8.5 square miles). Attleborough is in the Mid-Norfolk constituency of the UK Parliament. Attleborough railway station is on a main line rail service to both Norwich and Cambridge. The 2001 Census recorded the town as having a permanent resident population of 9702 distributed between 4185 households. It increased to a population of 10482 in 4481 households in the 2011 Census. The first turnpike road in England is rumoured to have been created here at the end of the 17th century. The 1920s saw continuing development as a market centre, held on a Thursday, the stalls spread along the pavements of Church Street and in an open area by the Angel Hotel opposite the Griffin Inn. It was the turkey sales which made the town a thriving market centre during the 1930s, and thousands were sold every year on Michaelmas Day. Local employment still primarily revolved around the Gaymer's cider works, established in the late 19th century. Much of the town's improvement occurred during the 1960s. The overspill programme and new town development brought new families into south Norfolk. Attleborough had to make choices for the future and new development zones were designated. The very first estate programme started with the building of the council-owned Cyprus Estate which has since been added to by different private housing schemes, such as Fairfields and Ollands built primarily in the 1970s as well as a significant estate on the south side of the town in the 1990s. Smart controls such as Hive are the next generation technology with more and more people now converting their houses into smart homes to control multiple devices in the homes remotely. Smart technology can be incorporated with several household devices such as security, lighting, entertainment and more. But what if there’s an oil boiler installed in your home, can you still connect your Hive with the your heating? Well, simply read on to find out.
The answer to this question is yes, most oil boilers are compatible with Hive and can substitute for either an existing conventional programmer or thermostat. The smart technology works to help derive more benefits from your heating system and they usually come with apps which can be used to control your home’s heating from anywhere with just your mobile device. Hive, however, cannot work to replace the functions of smart oil boiler heating controls to modulate your heating as they only work on an on or off basis. To make use of the modulating technology in an oil boiler, the cost of manufacture would be considerably higher while offering little advantage in efficiency for the home or property owner. Ultimately, this implies that you can’t incorporate smart technology to control the output in a similar way as a gas boiler, but there are still some ways to utilize smart technology with your oil boiler in such a way to boost your efficiency and lessen the energy bills.
Do you want to use your Hive with your home’s oil boiler? We’d advise you get in touch with an OFTEC qualified engineer if you wish to install Hive Active Heating on your oil boiler, as British Gas engineer do not offer this service.
If you’re building a connected home, a smart thermostat allows you to change the temperature in your home. And not only do several smart thermostats come with touch screens and a user friendly interface, but they’re also compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and other voice controlled personal assistants. So how does a smart thermostat work? Let’s have a look!
Generally, smart thermostats are connected to the home’s Heating and/or Air Con system via C wire (common wire). Homes that lacks a C wire (especially older homes) will have to install one first before getting a smart thermostat. The C wire is a crucial element in the installation process as it works mainly to wire your smart thermostats into the Boiler system without tampering with the wiring for the other appliances in the house.
The smart thermostats comes with some special temperature setting which you can access by connecting them to your home’s WiFi. These include:
• Mobile Control
Most smart thermostats are specially designed to enable users to control the temperature of their home from the comfort of their couch or car via their unique mobile apps. This feature is just perfect if you particularly like getting the perfect temperature in your home without having to get out of bed.
• Humidity Controls
Although, the humidity of your home can not really be adjusted with a smart thermostat but you can always stay on top of it by monitoring it or setting an alarm on your phone to go off when the humidity changes.
• Geofencing Feature
With a smart thermostat, you can choose the particular times of the day you want it in action. This feature enables you to go on impromptu travels without having to worry about your energy bills - some smart thermostats come with the geotracking feature which determines when you’ve left the house and adjusts the temperature of the home accordingly with your energy usage in mind.
In recent times, home and property owners are constantly looking for ways in which to enhance both energy efficiency and sustainability especially as the world draws closer and closer to energy-efficient technology. The Nest thermostat is a great example of this fact as its designed in such a way to save energy while also cutting heating and cooling costs. And an interesting fact is, you’re not limited to using just a single Nest thermostat in your home as multiple of the device can successfully run together to maintain a consistent level of temperature monitoring as well as energy efficiency. What’s more? You can add up to 20 Nest thermostat and 18 temperature sensors in a home.
It’s very unlikely that you’re going to need this many thermostats in your home, but if you’d like to add a second the process is quite straightforward. However, we’d recommend you employ the services of a seasoned professional especially if you lack the required training or experience to pull this off to save yourself some time and money.
To get started, simply download the associated Nest app to add Nest devices. Now let’s have a look at the processes involved in adding a second Nest thermostat to your home.
• Open the app.
• Go to the top left corner of the main screen and click on the menu button.
• Pick the location or home you’re adding the device to.
• Go to the top right corner and select the “settings.
• Once done, then click on the Add Product “Plus button.
Upon a successful addition of the second thermostat, the app will guide you through the initial set up steps. Google also offers a very helpful guide if you’re unfamiliar with the initial configuration.
The Hive thermostat stand is relatively easy to install, however if you lack the necessary training or experience, this is a task you might want to leave to a professional to guarantee the best result while also saving you money and time. This guide will give you a good insight into the Hive thermostat installation process.
The installation of a Hive thermostat does require it to be connected to your home boiler. For this reason we always recommend you get a professional to install it. However once install the Hive Smart Thermostat is very easy to operate and move the controller around your home. To get started, you can follow these steps:
• Press the lever at the lower side of the thermostat and pull away from the front to detach the back plate of your device.
• Once done, simply hang the thermostat on the stand back plate and ensure it holds firmly in place
When it comes to Hive thermostat installation, you might also want to consider the positioning of the device in such a way to heat your home even more efficiently as its designed to be very sensitive to temperature. To identify the best spot for your Hive thermostat, let’s take a look at some of the dos and don’ts.
A Few Dos:
• Do maintain the position of your Hive Thermostat to keep a stable connection with the receive and Hive Hub.
• Do ensure that the position chosen is the centre of your home or a frequently used room.
• Do place the thermostat about 1 to 1.5 metres from floor.
• Do ensure that your thermostat is in a close proximity with the hub and receiver for a better functionality.
A Few Don’ts:
• Don’t place your Hive thermostat stand close to radiators, direct sunlight or other heat sources,
• Don’t position your device near or at places that can expoerience a sudden change in temperature such as the front or back door.
• Don’t leave your thermostat too close to curtains or ornaments.
