Smart Thermostat in Alton

Controlling the way your home is heated is amongst the better ways to lessen expensive energy bills and leave you with much more disposable income at the end of each and every month. In fact, 60% of your energy bill is from heating the house, so it's undoubtedly a good place to start.

With the right controls you'll be able to keep your home at a comfortable temperature, while all at once not totally wasting further money on fuel. You'll likewise be able to keep your house carbon emissions down as well.

The good news is, home heating control systems can be used with any boiler, no matter what the type or age. This means there's a saving to be made if you just go out there and get it.

By setting up a heating control system it will save you in between £70 and £150 on a yearly basis. As well as this there are plenty of CO2 emissions to be reduced also and you can slash between 310kg and 630kg each year.

Also consider the temperature you have your thermostat set on. By just turning it down only one degree, you can save as much as £75 per year and won't feel a difference in temperature either.

Alton

Alton is a market town and civil parish inside the East Hampshire district in the English county of Hampshire. It lies across a valley around the source of the River Wey. This town is positioned 9 miles from Farnham and 16 miles from Winchester, with London about 52 miles away. Brockham Hill marks the highest point in Alton, at 225 metres above sea level. As per the 2011 Census, the town had a population of 17,816. Named within the Domesday Book in 1086 as having a notable marketplace, the Saturday market continued for hundreds of years. Another significant part of the town's economy was the manufacturing of paper and of dress supplies during the 18th century, which consisted of the creation of ribbed druggets, shallons, silks and serges, bombazine and figured barragons. Alton currently has companies inside the retail and service sectors, which may be found inside the centre of the town, and you will find more than one hundred companies inside the four industrial areas of Mill Lane, Newman Lane, Caker Stream and Omega Park. There is a variety of independent and industrial chain companies for residents to choose from, which includes a greengrocers, butchers, hardware shop, five supermarkets along with a number of pubs and restaurants. The town is most famous for its association with Sweet Fanny Adams. This was an eight-year-old girl murdered in the town by a solicitor's clerk, who was among the final criminals to be executed in Winchester. The murder occurred at the same time as the introduction of tinned meat inside the Royal Navy, with all the sailors upset with the new food, suggesting that it contained the remains of 'Sweet Fanny Adams'. For all your residence improvements, make sure that you use trustworthy experts in Alton to ensure you get the best quality work.

Installing your Nest thermostat may not be as easy as screwing a light bulb, but we can also assure you that it isn’t very difficult either. However, if you lack the needed training or experience to pull it off, we’d recommend you hire the services of a professional in order to save yourself some time and money. This guide will give you some quick and easy steps to follow and ensure you make no errors during the installation process.

Once installed removing the Nest Thermostat can be done. To get started, you’ll need just a Philips head screwdriver which Nest has thoughtfully provided with the device.

• Turn off the Nest Thermostat by switching the circuit breaker to the off position.

• Label or mark your old thermostat’s wires. However, if you notice your thermostat is tagged 120v or 240v, or possesses thick wires, do not connect the wires to the Nest as you have a high voltage system.

• Uninstall the old thermostat by locating detaching the wires coming out from the wall into the thermostat. Once done, simply unscrew the device from the wall

• Mark the spot of your thermostat. Do this by threading wires through the Nest base plate’s centre incorporate the tiny bubble level. Once done, you can then use a pencil to mark te two screw holes.

• Attach the trim plate. If you wish to cover the screw holes, simply install the trim plate in the Nest box’s bottom to the base plate.

• Using the screws and screwdriver, attach the Nest base to the wall.

• Connect the wires to the Nest by putting the labelled wires in the Nest’s corresponding ports.

can you use hive with an oil boiler?

Smart controls such as Hive are the next generation technology with more and more people now converting their houses into smart homes to control multiple devices in the homes remotely. Smart technology can be incorporated with several household devices such as security, lighting, entertainment and more. But what if there’s an oil boiler installed in your home, can you still connect your Hive with the your heating? Well, simply read on to find out.

The answer to this question is yes, most oil boilers are compatible with Hive and can substitute for either an existing conventional programmer or thermostat. The smart technology works to help derive more benefits from your heating system and they usually come with apps which can be used to control your home’s heating from anywhere with just your mobile device. Hive, however, cannot work to replace the functions of smart oil boiler heating controls to modulate your heating as they only work on an on or off basis. To make use of the modulating technology in an oil boiler, the cost of manufacture would be considerably higher while offering little advantage in efficiency for the home or property owner. Ultimately, this implies that you can’t incorporate smart technology to control the output in a similar way as a gas boiler, but there are still some ways to utilize smart technology with your oil boiler in such a way to boost your efficiency and lessen the energy bills.

Do you want to use your Hive with your home’s oil boiler? We’d advise you get in touch with an OFTEC qualified engineer if you wish to install Hive Active Heating on your oil boiler, as British Gas engineer do not offer this service.

do smart thermostats need wifi?

The short answer to this is no! Smart thermostats can still be used without WiFi, however, they’ll be deprived of some certain capabilities and innovative features that comes mainly due to their ability to connect to the internet. As a result, the smart thermostat will only be functional for basic task such as heating and cooling control. In other words, making use of a WiFi connection will be in your best bet to enjoy the multiple juicy benefits that comes with a smart thermostats such as remote monitoring, ability to connect to other devices and display local weather conditions and much more. And what’s the use of purchasing a smart thermostat if you’d not be able to enjoy these remarkable features?

However, even when you have a WiFi, it’s expected for the connection to fail at times. When this happens, what will be the impact on your smart thermostat? Let’s have a closer look!

• As you would have expected, when your smart thermostat is disconnected from WiFi, features that are controlled with the mobile app would all be impacted. And this might be a big headache when you wish to access these features and control remotely when far away from home.

• When your smart thermostat connection to WiFi fails, all live updates and alerts would be affected. This implies that you’d stop seeing updates, reports and notifications on your mobile device. As a result, you’ll not be notified in case of an emergency like electricity cut-outs, water leaks, humidity and temperatures exceeding the set levels as well as thermostat’s low battery.

• The lack of a WiFi connection might have taken away all the juicy advantages of having a smart thermostat, but one function that remains unaffected is the basic one - the control of your home’s heating and cooling system. In other words, if your smart thermostat is offline, your home will still be heated and cooled to the thermostat’s set temperature.
