Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to make the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. These days, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains each hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are four trains every hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the building of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed several people.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, one of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many shopping or leisure opportunities within the town, so people normally visit surrounding places making use of public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is household to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
