Tillicoultry
Tillicoultry (population 5,900) is a community in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. Tillicoultry is usually referred to as Tilly by the citizens. Among the Hillfoots Villages on the A91, which ranges from Stirling to St. Andrews, Tillicoultry is positioned at the southern base of the Ochil Hills, which provide a spectacular backdrop. The River Devon lies to the south. The river additionally goes through neighbouring villages Dollar as well as Alva to the east and west specifically. The previous mining village of Coalsnaughton lies simply southern, whilst Alloa lies 4 mi southwest. The "hill" referred to in the first etymology is most likely to be Kirkhill, at the east of the town. The alternative Latin etymology, Tellus culta, the grown land, suggested by Rev. William Osborne, preacher of the parish from 1773 to 1794, is also feasible. However, as both etymologies could equally be put on a hundred locations in Scotland, both are suspicious, as neither define the town in an unique fashion.
