Abbots Langley
Abbots Langley is a big village in Hertfordshire in England with a population of 10,472. It is neighbours with Watford and many people work there, and it used to make up part of the Watford Rural District. It is now in the Three Rivers District.
The first record of the village goes back to 1045 and it is recognised in the Domesday book, which noted that 19 families lived there at the time. The village rests on clay, so the water supply is abundant.
Abbots Langley is probably most famous for being the home of Pope Adrian IV, the only Englishman to ever become Pope. He was born Nicholas Breakspear in around 1100.
The village has a Methodist Church as well as the Church of St Lawrence the Martyr which has a 12th-century tower and Norman arches.
In the south of Abbots Langley are Leavesden Film Studios, located on the former Rolls-Royce airfield. Scenes from films including GoldenEye and Harry Potter have been filmed there.
