Sturminster Newton
Sturminster Newton is a town and civil parish in the Blackmore Vale location of Dorset, England. It is located on a low limestone ridge in a meander of the River Stour. The community is at the centre of a huge dairy products agriculture area, around which the town's economic climate is developed. The larger part of the community (Sturminster) pushes the north side of the river, as well as includes most shops and also services, whilst to the south is the smaller Newton. Between these two locations is a large flood plain. The town was the house of poet and author William Barnes, and also, for part of his life, Thomas Hardy. The community has 43 shops, a main and secondary school, and also a college as well as university event catering for kids with special academic needs. In the 2011 census the community's civil parish had a population of 4,945. A market is held in the community on Mondays. Among the biggest livestock markets in England used to be held below, however it was closed in 1998 and now in its place stands a housing estate and a 300-seat neighborhood arts centre called The Exchange. The town belongs to the historical West Country Carnival circuit.
