If you have a rarely used garage, why not think about a conversion in Ivybridge to make the most from your house. Take a look at as many as four totally free quotes with this service and get the ideal price for a conversion.

One of the leading advantages with a garage conversion is the space can be changed quickly for the additional room you would like, whether or not it's for a growing family or just to add to the price of your house.

A garage conversion suggests you won't have to relocate for more space, which often can save a lot of money on solicitor fees, estate agent payments and stamp duty. And the extra room can be changed into what you need, whether it's an extension to the living area or kitchen, or even a separate room completely.

With the structure already in position it's evident that a garage conversion is going to be less expensive than creating an extension also, and won't consume important space in your garden. With the outside unlikely to change too, it's an alternative way to bypass regulations for conservation areas and listed buildings.

Should you be keen on transforming your garage, check quotations from companies within Ivybridge working with our quick and simple service to receive the best deal available.

Ivybridge is a small town and civil parish in the South Hams, in Devon, England. It sits about 9 miles (14.5 kilometres) east of Plymouth. It is at the southern extremity of Dartmoor, a National Park of England and Wales and lies along the A38 'Devon Expressway' road. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11851 people. Specified in documents as early as the 13th century, Ivybridge's early history is marked by its status as an essential crossing-point over the River Erme on the Exeter-to-Plymouth route. In the 16th century, mills were built making use of the River Erme's power. The parish of Saint John was formed in 1836, with Ivybridge becoming a civil parish in 1894. It emerged as a town in 1977. The early urbanisation and advancement of Ivybridge primarily coincided with the Industrial Revolution. The paper mill closed in the beginning of the 21st century, after being in operation for over 150 years in the town, and the buildings are being converted to homes and shops. The shopping area is mostly along Fore Street, with some little shops and restaurants situated in the Glanvilles Mill shopping centre which is accessible from Fore Street. The shopping centre features over 35 shops, which includes both regional and nationwide chain stores, in addition to restaurants and cafés. Though sometimes cited as a dormitory town, lots of people work in the town itself, and farming continues to play an economic role for Ivybridge's hinterland. The area surrounding Ivybridge is almost totally farmland. For all your home makeovers, make certain to identify trusted professionals in Ivybridge to make certain of quality.

FAQs

do i need building regs for a garage conversion?

Are you considering converting your garage into a more usable space in your home? If yes, then you’d probably want to know if you’ll require building regs before converting the garage. The answer to this question is yes. Although you may not require planning approval to convert your garage into a more usable space, but you’d usually need approval under the Building Regulations.

When re-structuring your garage into a habitable space, the following should be taken into consideration: structural alterations, ventilation, moisture proofing, insulation, fireproofing, escape routes as well as the submission of a building building notice or full plan application to the local council in order to inform them about the planned project.

• Walls

You’ll require an approval if you plan to infill the garage door with a window and a new wall. This is because the garage may have been built of a shallow slab which implies that a new foundation would be needed for the new wall construction.

• Floor

Even though there’s a high possibility that the garage floor is strong enough for domestic use since its designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, you may however need to upgrade to make sure it suitable for both thermal insulation and damp proofing. In addition, there may also be the need to to alter the floor level in such a way that it matches that of the remaining parts of the house.

• Ventilation

According to the Building Regulations requirements, there’s a need for adequate ventilation for each individual rooms which includes garage conversions for general health purposes. What’s going to determine the ventilation level that’ll be required is the frequency at which the room is used. Ventilation can be provided through purge or simply opening the window or via trickle ventilation.

do you need an architect for a garage conversion?
Have you decided to convert that under-utilized space ( garage) in your home to a more habitable space where you can do anything asides general storage or parking a car? If yes, then you’d probably want to know where to start or if you’d require an architect to get started. Well, you’re not alone! This is one of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to garage conversions and reasonably so. Talking about where to get started, when it comes to home improvement projects the first step to take is determining whether or not you’d require a planning permission or if your proposed garage conversion is covered under permitted development rights. Once you’ve been able to conclude on that, the next step is deciding whether you’re going to complete the project yourself, hire the services of tradesmen or employing a builder. And this ultimately brings us to the question of whether you’ll need an architect for a garage conversion. To get started, it’s highly recommended that you employ the services of a professional architect or an architectural technologist to assist in designing your garage conversion. However, most garage conversion projects are straightforward with no complex changes to be made so far you wish to avoid applying for a planning permission and staying within the set guidelines of the permitted development rights. In such events, if you’re properly trained and well experienced in the field, then it may be cost effective to design your garage conversion by yourself. It should, however, be noted that it all depends on your personal preferences and budget. If you’re on tight budget and don’t mind a straightforward design, you can save cost by not hiring an architect.
how much is a single garage conversion?

Converting your garage into a habitable room can be an option that’s too good to pass up especially when you’re in dire need of more living space in your home. If you’re in a similar situation and considering the cost of a single garage conversion in your home, then you’ve come to the right place! The fact is, the cost of a single garage conversion is dependent on a number of influencing factors which includes your specific plans as well as your location. Generally, the price of garage remodel is expected to cost about half of what you’ll incur when building a home extension or addition from scratch. However, before commencing a project of this magnitude you should put into consideration some things.

A single garage conversion is a huge job which typically involves wall insulation, floor raising, heating addition, cool and ventilation as well as updating doors and windows. Before you get started you should consider if converting your single garage into a room is a good option, whether a permit is required to convert a garage, the type of room a garage can become, does it add value to your home and how much its going to cost.

Just like any other home improvement project, garage conversion cost varies depending on several factors like your garage space specifications. Other factors include the general condition of your garage - the condition of your foundation, walls, floors or roofs, the ceiling and more, planning applications, your location, the services of a structural engineer, internal or external garages etc. According to Santander, the average cost of converting a single garage costs approximately £6,300. However, considering the aforementioned influencing factors we’d expect the cost of a single garage conversion to cost within the range of £5,500 to £10,500.

Will the company deal with the building control application?

Most companies will make the building control application on your behalf and ensure that all the work is completed to the right standards. When a building inspector has inspected it, you’ll get a certificate. It usually takes around 6-8 weeks after completion to come.
