For those who have a rarely used garage, why not look at a conversion within Alexandria to make the most from your household. Compare and contrast up to four totally free prices with our service and find the very best price for a conversion.

One of the leading advantages with a garage conversion is that the space can be converted quickly for the extra room you'll need, regardless of whether it's for a growing family or simply just to add to the value of your home.

A garage conversion suggests you won't need to move for more space, which could help you save thousands of pounds on solicitor costs, estate agent payments and stamp duty. And the extra room can be transformed into whatever you need, no matter if it's an expansion to the living area or kitchen, or possibly a separate room entirely.

With the structure already in place it's evident that a garage conversion will be less costly than creating an extension also, and won't consume valuable space in your garden. With the exterior unlikely to change as well, it's a good way to get around rules for conservation areas as well as listed buildings.

Should you be keen on remodeling your garage, check prices from companies in Alexandria making use of our quick service to get the very best deal available.

Alexandria

Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is located on the River Leven, 4 miles (6 km) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It is the biggest town in the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed on account of the textile business. In 1715, the first bleachfields in the area were started at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll. As trade between Scotland and the US grew, cotton was increasingly imported and processed in and around Glasgow. Quickly, textile work in the Vale grew from just bleaching fabric to dying and printing it also. The town's conventional industries, above all cotton manufacturing, bleaching and printing, have been phased out. The town was redeveloped during the 1970s with a new town centre layout and traffic system. Close by landmarks include Christie Park plus the fountain in the town centre. Alexandria sits on the former A82 main road between Glasgow and Loch Lomond. You'll find frequent bus services on the route and the town features a railway station on the rail line between Balloch and Glasgow Queen Street. The town is well-known as the only UK town with a railway station as well as a pub in the center of a roundabout. The author A. J. Cronin's uncle owned a pub in Bridge Street. Alexandria Library is situated on Gilmour Street. The town hosts the Vale of Leven football club, who play at Millburn Park. The club were a dominant force in early Scottish football history, winning the Scottish Cup in 1877, 1878 and 1879, and were founder members of the Scottish Football League. For all your home improvements, be sure that you utilise trustworthy pros in Alexandria to make sure that you get the very best quality service.

FAQs

do i need building regs for a garage conversion?

Are you considering converting your garage into a more usable space in your home? If yes, then you’d probably want to know if you’ll require building regs before converting the garage. The answer to this question is yes. Although you may not require planning approval to convert your garage into a more usable space, but you’d usually need approval under the Building Regulations.

When re-structuring your garage into a habitable space, the following should be taken into consideration: structural alterations, ventilation, moisture proofing, insulation, fireproofing, escape routes as well as the submission of a building building notice or full plan application to the local council in order to inform them about the planned project.

• Walls

You’ll require an approval if you plan to infill the garage door with a window and a new wall. This is because the garage may have been built of a shallow slab which implies that a new foundation would be needed for the new wall construction.

• Floor

Even though there’s a high possibility that the garage floor is strong enough for domestic use since its designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, you may however need to upgrade to make sure it suitable for both thermal insulation and damp proofing. In addition, there may also be the need to to alter the floor level in such a way that it matches that of the remaining parts of the house.

• Ventilation

According to the Building Regulations requirements, there’s a need for adequate ventilation for each individual rooms which includes garage conversions for general health purposes. What’s going to determine the ventilation level that’ll be required is the frequency at which the room is used. Ventilation can be provided through purge or simply opening the window or via trickle ventilation.

do you need an architect for a garage conversion?
Have you decided to convert that under-utilized space ( garage) in your home to a more habitable space where you can do anything asides general storage or parking a car? If yes, then you’d probably want to know where to start or if you’d require an architect to get started. Well, you’re not alone! This is one of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to garage conversions and reasonably so. Talking about where to get started, when it comes to home improvement projects the first step to take is determining whether or not you’d require a planning permission or if your proposed garage conversion is covered under permitted development rights. Once you’ve been able to conclude on that, the next step is deciding whether you’re going to complete the project yourself, hire the services of tradesmen or employing a builder. And this ultimately brings us to the question of whether you’ll need an architect for a garage conversion. To get started, it’s highly recommended that you employ the services of a professional architect or an architectural technologist to assist in designing your garage conversion. However, most garage conversion projects are straightforward with no complex changes to be made so far you wish to avoid applying for a planning permission and staying within the set guidelines of the permitted development rights. In such events, if you’re properly trained and well experienced in the field, then it may be cost effective to design your garage conversion by yourself. It should, however, be noted that it all depends on your personal preferences and budget. If you’re on tight budget and don’t mind a straightforward design, you can save cost by not hiring an architect.
Will the company deal with the building control application?

Most companies will make the building control application on your behalf and ensure that all the work is completed to the right standards. When a building inspector has inspected it, you’ll get a certificate. It usually takes around 6-8 weeks after completion to come.

how long does a garage conversion take?

Garage conversion is a great way to add extra usable space to your home without having to extend your property. A fun fact is that, in the UK if you have your car parked in the garage, you’re in the minority. According to a research carried out by Admiral Loans, just about 33 percent of home owners in the UK store their cars in the garage. For most people the garage is literally a dumping ground that’s never fully utilized as such. In recent times, the garage is now being used to store a variety of other stuffs asides a car which includes garden furniture, tools and appliances, utilities such as washing machine, fridge and freezer as well as food and groceries. These facts show that more and more people are underutilizing their garage when they may actually be in need of more usable space in their property. So why not put into consideration converting the garage into a new space that would be able to serve more purpose?

If you’ve decided to convert your garage, you’d probably want to know the how long the project will take. There are a wide range of factors that can determine the duration of a garage conversion project. These factors include:

• If the foundation needs reinforcing

• If the floors, walls, or roofs are in a bad condition.

• If the ceiling height needs some raising

• If the insulation required in newer builds.

All aforementioned factors will make the garage conversion project take longer than expected. However, in normal situations garage conversions are relatively quick to complete once you start the building works. A single-car conversion will usually take about 3 to 4 weeks to complete depending on the existing garage’s structure.
