Ivybridge

Ivybridge is a town and civil parish in the South Hams, in Devon, England. It is located about 9 miles (14.5 kilometres) east of Plymouth. It is at the southern extremity of Dartmoor, a National Park of England and Wales and lies along the A38 'Devon Expressway' road. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11851 individuals. Discussed in documents as early as the 13th century, Ivybridge's early history is marked by its status as an essential crossing-point over the River Erme on the Exeter-to-Plymouth route. In the 16th century, mills were developed using the River Erme's power. The parish of Saint John was formed in 1836, with Ivybridge coming to be a civil parish in 1894. It emerged as a town in 1977. The early urbanisation and development of Ivybridge mostly coincided with the Industrial Revolution. When the South Devon Railway Company constructed its train route through Ivybridge in the 19th century, a paper mill was constructed together with it, which triggered an increase in housing close by. The paper mill closed in the beginning of the 21st century, after being in operation for over 150 years in the town, and the structures are being changed to homes and shops. The shopping area is generally along Fore Street, with some small shops and eateries located in the Glanvilles Mill shopping centre which is accessible from Fore Street. The shopping centre contains over 35 shops, which includes both regional and national chain stores, in addition to restaurants and cafés. Though occasionally described as a dormitory town, many individuals work in the town itself, and farming continues to play an economic role for Ivybridge's hinterland. The area bordering Ivybridge is almost entirely farmland. For all your home makeovers, make certain to find credible specialists in Ivybridge to make certain of quality.

FAQs

how long does it take to fit patio doors?

If you’re interested in getting a replacement door, you may want to know just how long it’ll take to fit your new patio door. However, there’s no specific answer to this question as there are different types of patio doors with all having unique installation processes as well as varying completion times. Generally, fitting patio doors will normally take within a range of 10 days to 21 days, except in situations whereby you have specific and non standard requirements. The time range provided represents the total duration starting from ordering the patio door till the installation is completed and this also varies from style to style.

If you want to get a professional double glazing surveyor, he will assess you property while also making sure the right and accurate measurements are taken and also plan out the installation. In order to avoid any unnecessary delays, this is a very crucial step as the surveyor will work to make sure any potential problems is identified early on. Once done, you can then wait a couple of days for the door to be manufactured and then fitted, depending on the door style and finish.

The time to completion varies depending on the complexity of the design. Patio doors may take about 14 days to 21 days with bifold patio doors being the most complicated and time consuming. This is due to the fact that they take longer time to manufacture and when you factor in the possible duration of the installation, you can expect a total duration between the range of 6 weeks to 8 weeks.

In addition, there are also some other factors that can affect the time it takes to install patio doors. These includes the need for a higher energy rating, upgraded security fittings, door hardware with custom finish and other special requirements that are beyond the standards.

what are french doors?

A French door simply means a door style which features two sections that pivots on hinges installed on the door framing’s opposite sides, which opens and closes at the centre. Glass panels are used to make each door’s section covering the middle of the door ( either individual panels that are muntins framed or a single panel of glass). When open, the whole doorway is an open space with no post at the middle. French doors are popular for a number of reasons. Not only do they bring a particular level of charm, class and elegance to your home, but also allow natural light into a room and create a wide opening unlike a sliding patio door. They’re mostly installed at the rear of a home so as to allow for a direct walkway exiting the house and straight into the garden, thereby making your garden even a lot more closer to your home.

There are 3 main types of patio doors which includes the following:

• External or French patio doors

As the name suggests, they’re the French door that leads outside mostly into the garden. Generally when opened, the two door swings outwards, but there are some that can open inwards. They mostly possess a number of large glass panels which enable natural light to brighten up your home.

• Interior

This basically means fitting double French doors between two rooms in a house. This is very similar to the external ones with two doors and also made up of glass panels.

• Sliding

They are very similar to both the external and interior designs but rather than the two doors swinging open, they slide apart to create a great amount of space to walk into the garden. This is the classic charm that sliding French doors provide.

do you need planning permission for french doors?

So you’ve decided to add some new French doors for your home? If yes, then you’re likely going to be concerned about whether or not you’ll require a planning permission to get started.

Properties are compelled to meet certain requirements and have proper permission in place in order to be in line with the regulations. Overall, you’re going to need planning permission in the following situations:

• If you want to construct something new.

• If you want to a make a major change to a building like an extension.

• If you want to change the use of your building such as converting it from residential to commercial.

Getting a new door or replacing an existing one doesn’t usually require a planning permission as it’s one of the less complicated improvements you can make to a home. As a result, this kind of improvement is normally covered by permitted development rights especially when you’re not constructing an extension for which to use the French door. However in the events whereby a permission is needed, it will most likely going to be granted if the proposed changes does not have an impact on the primary elevations of the house which is usually the front of the building.

It’s also important to note that permitted development can be limited by local authorities. These limitations include buildings in a conservation area, listed buildings, and if you happen to reside in an area of immense aesthetic appeal or other designated areas like National Parks. If such situation before you change your French doors, it’s important to consult your local authority before proceeding.

Can I replace my front door without replacing the frame?

It is possible to replace a door without replacing the frame. However, most people choose to replace both their door and frame at the same time, as this is likely to make your home security and energy efficiency better, particularly if your existing front door is very old or the frame is distorted.
