Henley-on-thames

Henley-on-Thames is a town and civil parish on the River Thames in the English county of Oxfordshire. It lies about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Reading and 7 miles west of Maidenhead. One of its limits has the tripoint of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. It covers an area of around 2.15 square miles. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11619 people. The first record of Henley is from 1179, when it is recorded that King Henry II 'had actually bought land for the making of buildings'. King John gave the manor of Benson and the town and manor of Henley to Robert Harcourt in 1199. The existing Thursday market, it is believed, was granted by a charter of King John. A market was undoubtedly in existence by 1269, even though the jurors of the assize of 1284 declared to not know by what warrant the earl of Cornwall held a market and fair in the town of Henley. The existing Corpus Christi fair was approved by a charter of Henry VI. Henley is a world-renowned centre for rowing. Each summer, the annual Henley Royal Regatta is held on Henley Reach, which is a naturally straight length of the river just north of the town. It was extended synthetically. The contest became 'Royal' in 1851, when Prince Albert became patron of the regatta. The River and Rowing Museum, found in Mill Meadows, is the town's one museum. It was founded in 1998, and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The museum, created by the designer David Chipperfield, contains details on the River Thames, the sport of rowing, and the town of Henley itself. For all of your house enhancements, make sure to identify trustworthy experts in Henley-on-Thames to make certain of quality.

FAQs

Can I replace my front door without replacing the frame?

It is possible to replace a door without replacing the frame. However, most people choose to replace both their door and frame at the same time, as this is likely to make your home security and energy efficiency better, particularly if your existing front door is very old or the frame is distorted.

how to fit a upvc door?

In the past traditional door were usually made from wood and they’re normally good enough at doing the job they were required to do. However, with the advent of far more effective door building materials such as the affordable composites and UPVC, wooden doors are no longer in vogue. Being strong enough to provide the required security for home, low maintenance requirement as well as offering a strong seal and great insulating qualities, both UPVC and composite doors are among the most poplar options available in the market today. So if you’re looking to install a UPVC door in your home or property, you’d probably be wondering how to go about the task. Well, you’ve come to the right place! We’d recommend you hire the services of a professional door installer who can guarantee the best results especially if you lack proper training and experience to complete the job. In this guide, however, you’ll given a good insight into the UPVC door installation process.

• Take the measurement of the entrance to ensure the new door is the right size.

• Remove the old frame and wipe out any old mortar, sealant and any other debris.

• Resting the sill on the brickwork, make use of packers and spirit level to put the new frame in place. Check that the frame is placed the right way with drainage holes at the bottom and also level.

• Once the frame has been successfully put in place, the next line of action is to secure it. To do this, simply drill a hole through the frame. Use a masonry drill through the pilot hole and into the brickwork and ensure a tight fit with the help of packers, then put the anchor into place. Once done, make use of the fixing screw to secure the frame.

• Upon completion, you then have to put the door into place. Make sure the door is toed and heeled so as to avoid unnecessary issues in the future.

what are french doors?

A French door simply means a door style which features two sections that pivots on hinges installed on the door framing’s opposite sides, which opens and closes at the centre. Glass panels are used to make each door’s section covering the middle of the door ( either individual panels that are muntins framed or a single panel of glass). When open, the whole doorway is an open space with no post at the middle. French doors are popular for a number of reasons. Not only do they bring a particular level of charm, class and elegance to your home, but also allow natural light into a room and create a wide opening unlike a sliding patio door. They’re mostly installed at the rear of a home so as to allow for a direct walkway exiting the house and straight into the garden, thereby making your garden even a lot more closer to your home.

There are 3 main types of patio doors which includes the following:

• External or French patio doors

As the name suggests, they’re the French door that leads outside mostly into the garden. Generally when opened, the two door swings outwards, but there are some that can open inwards. They mostly possess a number of large glass panels which enable natural light to brighten up your home.

• Interior

This basically means fitting double French doors between two rooms in a house. This is very similar to the external ones with two doors and also made up of glass panels.

• Sliding

They are very similar to both the external and interior designs but rather than the two doors swinging open, they slide apart to create a great amount of space to walk into the garden. This is the classic charm that sliding French doors provide.

How do I know my new door is secure?

There are a range of locks that are available for doors. Look for ones accredited by Secured by Design and British Standards. The quality of the installation will also affect the security of the door. Additional security measures such as a double lock, security bolts and chains can support this.
