Burnham-on-sea

Burnham-on-Sea is a town in Somerset, located on the mouth of the River Parrett and Bridgewater Bay. Prior to the eighteenth century, Burnham was a modest fishing village. Its growth began when it became a common seaside resort throughout the Victorian time, at a time when seaside holidays were extremely trendy. It's a part of the parish of Burnham-on-Sea and Heybridge, and its town council is shared with Highbridge, a nearby market town. At the time of the 2011 Census, the permanent resident population of the town was approximately 19,576. Resulting from the town's positioning on the border of the Somerset Levels and moors where they meet the Bristol Channel, Burnham's history is dominated by land reclamation and sea defences since the Roman era. Due to the town's position near the mouth of the River Parrett, there is a high threat to shipping in the location. Lighthouses are, therefore, significant landmarks near the town, with the original lighthouse, the Round Tower, constructed to take over from the light on the top of the 14th-century town of St. Andrews Church utilised to reduce the number of shipwrecks. The High Lighthouse measures 34 metres, and one lighthouse is known as 'Lighthouse on Legs'. The building of a stone pier was completed in 1858 by the Somerset Central Railway. After its establishment in 1860, a steam service to Wales started, although it wasn't a commercial success. A second steamer service, concrete pier, completed following three years of work in 1914, is known as the shortest pier in Britain. In spite of its little size, the pier was shortlisted as being on the list of leading 5 piers in Britain. For all of your home improvements, be certain that you choose reliable specialists in Burnham-on-Sea to ensure you get the top quality service at a great price.

FAQs

how much do french patio doors cost?

It’s usually quite easy to purchase a new door off the shelf, however if you have a goal of keeping costs under control then you must make sure you think it through before making a decision. Otherwise, you could just be storing up some trouble and expenses here and there for yourself later in the future. So if you’re wondering how much French patio doors cost, you’ve come to the right place! The cost of French patio doors largely varies based on some determining factors. These factors include:

• Glazed insert sections

• Surrounding door frames’ quality.

• Varying or non standard threshold levels.

• French patio door furniture which includes locks, handles, weather strips and letter boxes.

• Unique surfaces such as colours or wood grains.

• Above standard thermal performance

• Side and top panel will surely lead to additional costs.

Apart from these factors and unless you’re going to undertake the project by yourself which is not advisable especially if you lack proper training and experience, then you’ll have to put into consideration the labour cost to remove the old door and install your new French patio door. Labour costs also varies a lot depending on your special requirements, time taken as well as the company chosen.

Generally, French patio doors are widely regarded to be the people’s choice in the UK. They feature two doors which open outwards from the centre which results in a wide opening to the rear garden from the house. So exactly how much do French patio doors cost? The cost of French patio doors will usually range between £500 to £1,500, depending on the aforementioned influencing factors. This type of patio doors style are best fitted in smaller spaces due to the fact that they’re able to open outwards.

how long does it take to fit patio doors?

If you’re interested in getting a replacement door, you may want to know just how long it’ll take to fit your new patio door. However, there’s no specific answer to this question as there are different types of patio doors with all having unique installation processes as well as varying completion times. Generally, fitting patio doors will normally take within a range of 10 days to 21 days, except in situations whereby you have specific and non standard requirements. The time range provided represents the total duration starting from ordering the patio door till the installation is completed and this also varies from style to style.

If you want to get a professional double glazing surveyor, he will assess you property while also making sure the right and accurate measurements are taken and also plan out the installation. In order to avoid any unnecessary delays, this is a very crucial step as the surveyor will work to make sure any potential problems is identified early on. Once done, you can then wait a couple of days for the door to be manufactured and then fitted, depending on the door style and finish.

The time to completion varies depending on the complexity of the design. Patio doors may take about 14 days to 21 days with bifold patio doors being the most complicated and time consuming. This is due to the fact that they take longer time to manufacture and when you factor in the possible duration of the installation, you can expect a total duration between the range of 6 weeks to 8 weeks.

In addition, there are also some other factors that can affect the time it takes to install patio doors. These includes the need for a higher energy rating, upgraded security fittings, door hardware with custom finish and other special requirements that are beyond the standards.

Will a new door fit my aperture?

Many doors are made to measure. If you require a non-standard door width, ask a professional door installation company to measure your aperture and manufacture a door to fit. It could be that a small amont of brickwork is needed to accomodate the new door.

what is a patio door?

As you would have guessed, patio doors are exactly what the name suggests. They mainly act as a means by which you can access your patio from inside your house. As a result, they’re mostly fitted at the rear of your home which leads out to the garden and ultimately, the patio. In recent times, it’s mostly unlikely to see patio doors installed in homes without patios or homes with deckings instead. Generally, patio doors feature large floor to ceiling windows that are able to offer a wide open view of your garden as well as patio. In short, these characteristics are what mainly makes them unique from other normal exterior doors.

There are different types of patio doors which you can choose from and all with their own unique installation costs.

• Sliding Doors

Due to their space saving qualities, this type of sliding door are a popular choice amongst homeowners. As the name suggests, they basically slide across panels rather than opening in or out. This style also comprises the most significant windows which gives you a wider and clearer view of your garden while also allowing more natural light into the house.

• French Doors

Offering a standard design with two different panels with each able to swing wide open on its own, the French door is a conventional style door popular amongst traditionalists. French doors are generally stylish and very energy efficient, however they tend to consume more space within your home. It comes with several designs and a variety of colours to choose from.

• Bifold Doors

Bifold doors are the ideal choice if you want a more modern style for your home. These doors almost folds itself whether open or closed. Generally, they move along a track similar to sliding doors, but each panel folds when open. Here, you’re still offered the floor to ceiling wide open windows which further makes the overall effect even more special.
