Saxmundham
Saxmundham is a small market community in Suffolk, England, set in the valley of the River Fromus regarding 18 miles (29 km) north-east of Ipswich and 5 miles (8.0 kilometres) west of the coast at Sizewell. The community is bypassed by the A12. It is served by Saxmundham railway station on the East Suffolk Line. Saxmundham Town Council comes under the new East Suffolk District. It was formerly in Suffolk Coastal District. The area electoral ward likewise has the name Saxmundham. Its population at the 2011 census was 4,913. The town's name allegedly originates from the Old English "Seizmond's Residence". The earliest recorded mention of Saxmundham remains in the Domesday Book of 1086 which points out 3 churches. It has had a market charter given that a minimum of 1272 and continues the tradition to now.
