Biggleswade
Biggleswade is a market town and civil parish found on the River Ivel inside the English county of Bedfordshire. It is roughly forty miles north of Central London and twenty miles from Cambridge. Settlements near Biggleswade are considered to have existed from around 10000 BC, which is supported by archaeological evidence, such as ancient arrowheads that have been found within the town. As recorded in the 2011 Census, the town had a population of approximately 16,500. On account of effective transport links, being positioned on the A1 road between London and the North, in addition as possessing a railway station to the primary rail link North from London, the population has increased by nearly 10 percent during the last 10 years. This growth is expected to carry on due to new housing developments. Historically, Biggleswade was a vegetable growing region with much of the produce being transported to markets in London, like Covent Garden. Although a lot of this trade has stopped, Bedfordshire Growers, located on the outskirts of the town, continue to provide the leading supermarkets in the UK with potatoes and onions grown in Biggleswade. Biggleswade is also home to the headquarters for Jordan's cereals, an organisation that creates various varieties of muesli and granola. Sports and leisure activities play an important part in the local community.
