Flooring Renovation in Montacute

Renovating floors may entail a variety of tasks, from cleaning and maintenance, repairing existing flooring or even entirely removing and replacing flooring. The kind of restoration work will depend on the form of the pre-existing flooring. In older houses with period floors like flagstone, quarry tile or parquet, renovation is likely to involve repair and cleaning of the current floor as it will likely be an attractive element of the home. In newer houses with carpet or hardwood floors, renovation is more likely to involve entirely exchanging the existing flooring, either like for like utilising a similar material, or by changing from one material to another. For wooden flooring, the process of renovation generally consists of sanding the top layer of real wood down, cleaning and then revarnishing or staining. Tile flooring can be cleaned and any broken or damaged tiles exchanged, followed by regrouting or resealing. For carpets, maintenance can usually only extend to cleaning of the pile, any further problems or damage will generally require replacing the carpet. Experienced floor renovation companies can advise you of the best solution to breathe new life into tired floors or bring old floors up to a high standard. Specialist tools could also be required for repairing or replacing flooring.

Montacute

Montacute is a small town and civil parish in Somerset, England, 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) west of Yeovil. The town has a population of 831 (2011 census). The name Montacute is believed by some to stem from the Latin "Mons Acutus", describing the conically severe St Michael's Hill dominating the town to the west. A different sight is that it is named after Drogo de Montagu, whose family stemmed from Montaigu-les-Bois, in the arrondissement of Coutances. Mortain held Montacute after 1066, Drogo was a close partner. The town is developed almost completely of the regional hamstone. From the 15th century up until the start of the 20th century it developed the heart of the estate of the Phelips household of Montacute House. The town has a great medieval church, as well as was the website of a Cluniac abbey, the gatehouse of which is currently a personal home. At the centre of the town is a large square known as the 'Borough' around which are organized attractive cottages and also a bar, the Phelips Arms; there is a 2nd pub and hotel positioned in the village, called the King's Arms.

FAQs

How to repair wooden flooring

One the several of the several benefits that comes with having a wooden floor installed is the fact that damaged surfaces can be repaired without the need to replace the floor in the whole room. This is not applicable to many other types of flooring whereby even the littlest damages are not reparable. Depending on the severity and depth of the wooden flooring damage, there are a number of techniques you can incorporate to repair the affected area. For examples, minor damages will not require as much effort as corner curling or cupping. In certain cases where the job requires no expertise, the repair process can be done by any individual with no prior experience in similar works. However, in other cases, when the wooden flooring has suffered a major damage, it’s advisable to call for a professional help.

First of all, it’s quite important to always watch out and prevent any sort of damages as this is way better than spending time trying to have the damaged surface repaired. One of the ways to prevent damages is by always lifting furniture rather than just dragging it across the floor when you need to move it. However, accidents are always meant to happen. In the case of damaged wooden flooring, here are some repair solutions.

When there are small scratches on your flooring, simply add a new coating of sealer to your floor (if the floor has already been oiled, just add another layer of oil). For lacquered floors, make use of a lacquer repair pen to help get rid of the scratches. In addition, there are some DIY shops offering wax filler sticks which can be used to hide or remove both light and medium scratches on wooden flooring.
