Plockton
Plockton is a village in the Highlands of Scotland in Lochalsh, Wester Ross with a population of 378. Plockton is a negotiation on the shores of Loch Carron. It deals with east, away from the prevailing winds, which together with the North Atlantic Drift offers it a light environment allowing the Cordyline australis hand to thrive. Positioned on a sheltered inlet of Loch Carron, and as a result of the series of hand (New Zealand cabbage hand) trees which have dominated Harbour Street because the 1960s, Plockton has a distinct 'sub-tropical look' (Nicholson: 1975). The Church of Scotland in the village (additionally used by the Free Church of Scotland) was designed by Thomas Telford. The town is a tourist resort. The television collection Hamish Macbeth, starring Robert Carlyle, was shot there, substituting for the imaginary Lochdubh. Plockton was additionally used for different scenes in the movie The Wicker Man and the Assessor Alleyn Mysteries television series enhancing its reputation.
