Pevensey is a town and civil parish in the Wealden area of East Sussex, England. The major town is located five miles (8 kilometres) north-east of Eastbourne, one mile (1.6 km) inland from Pevensey Bay. The negotiation of Pevensey Bay creates part of the parish. It was below that William the Conqueror made the landing in his invasion of England in 1066 after crossing the English Channel from Normandy, France. In 1207 the community was provided a royal charter by King John as well as was regulated by Pevensey Corporation.
