Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name hails from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by means of Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains per hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are four trains each hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the building of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed lots of people.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are limited purchasing or leisure opportunities inside the town, so individuals usually go to surrounding regions making use of public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is home for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
