The London Borough of Hounslow is a London borough in west London, England, forming a part of Outer London. The borough was established in 1965, under the London Government Act 1963, by the merger of the area of the former Brentford and Chiswick Urban District, Feltham Urban District plus the Heston and Isleworth Urban District of Middlesex. It borders the boroughs of Richmond upon Thames, Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hillingdon, plus the Surrey borough of Spelthorne. The local authority is Hounslow London Borough Council.
In line with population estimates in the middle of 2014, the borough includes a permanent population of roughly 265568 people.
The Great West Road, which crosses the borough from Chiswick to Heathrow, formerly served nationally and globally well-known manufacturers like Firestone, Gillette and Coty. Consequently, the borough became referred to as the 'Golden Mile'. Several of these factory sites remain, including Gillette Corner, and also the Great West Road is still residence to a lot of prestigious names, providing them with simple non-motorway access between Slough, London Heathrow Airport and Central London. Other notable landmarks include Osterley Park, Gunnersbury Park, Syon House, the London Museum of Water and Steam, and Chiswick House.
