Aberdare
Aberdare is a large town in the Cynon Valley area of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The number of inhabitants was 31,705 at the 2001 census, which makes Aberdare the 13th largest town in Wales. It is 20 miles north-west of Cardiff and 22 miles north-east of Swansea.
Aberdare evolved into a busy industrial town in the 19th century, when it became a centre of iron and tin production. Later there were a lot of coal mines in the town which increased its population as people moved there to work. Now that the coal mines have closed, the landscape has remnants of its past but nature has restored it to its former beauty.
The town goes back far into history, with ancient burial sites and standing stones still visible today. There is a lot of Victorian architecture still around in Aberdare that links with its interesting past.
Aberdare is a active town with many shops and restaurants. It is only a 40 minute train ride from Cardiff, so it's easy to enjoy the countryside around Aberdale and then jump on the train to take advantage of what the city has to offer.
