Lochgilphead is a town as well as former burgh in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, UK, with a population of around 2,300 people. It is the management centre of Argyll and Bute. The town lies at the end of Loch Gilp (a branch of Loch Fyne) as well as rests on the banks of the Crinan Canal. Lochgilphead remains on the A83, with Ardrishaig 2 miles (3 km) to the south and Inveraray 24 miles (39 kilometres) to the north-east; Oban lies 37 miles (60 kilometres) north on the A816.
