Badminton
Badminton (population 271) is a town and also civil parish in Gloucestershire, England. It consists of Great Badminton and Little Badminton. In 1612 Edward Somerset, fourth Earl of Worcester, bought from Nicholas Boteler his mansions of Great and Little Badminton, called Madmintune in the Domesday Publication while one century earlier the name Badimyncgtun was recorded, held by that household because 1275. The village houses the Duke of Beaufort's house, Badminton Home, which has been the principal seat of the Somerset family members since the late 17th century. Badminton House also provides its name to the sport of badminton. The village is well-known for its steed tests, which happen in very early May yearly in the grounds of Badminton House.
