Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established just after the sale of land in 1881 to construct the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name comes from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. These days, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains per hour during the week; on Sundays, there are four trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the construction of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed lots of individuals.
Along with the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, one of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are few purchasing or leisure opportunities inside the town, so people usually visit surrounding locations working with public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is household for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
