Boldon Colliery
The Boldons are a team of 3 little villages in the north eastern of England - East Boldon, West Boldon and Boldon Colliery - north of Sunderland, eastern of Newcastle and southern of South Shields and Jarrow. They have a population of 13,271. Lying within the historic limits of County Durham, the towns are first recorded in print in 1170. Their names progressed from words "Bold" or "Botl", indicating a structure, and "dun", meaning a hillside. In 1866, work began sinking a pit that began creating coal in 1869, and also was after that known as Boldon New Winning. The village that created close by in the 1870s came to be referred to as Boldon Colliery. When the mine was deepened and also expanded in the 1910s, more real estate to accommodate the workforce was built to the south of the pit in an area called Boldon New Town. Till 1974 the location was provided as a metropolitan area of County Durham, yet ever since has become part of the district of South Tyneside. In 1976, the Boldon Colliery Band showed up in episode 13 of the television series When the Boat Comes In. The mine enclosed 1982 but more tasks became available when an Asda supermarket opened in 1987. Current advancements consist of Boldon Business Park. Boldon Colliery additionally has its own multi-screen cinema run by Cineworld. The primary high school in the area is Boldon School, a professional sporting activities university.
