An Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery at Castledyke South, in use in the late 5th or early 6th century until the late seventh century, was investigated and partly excavated in 1975. The skeletal remains of 227 individuals were identified, including one who had undergone, and survived, trepanning. The church was reopened in May 2007 as a resource for medical investigation into the development of diseases, and ossuary, which contained the bones and skeletons of some 2750 persons whose remains were removed between 1978 and 1984 from the 1000-year-old burial site, after the Church of England made the church redundant in 1972. The importance of the human remains lies in their representing the pathology of an isolated group over the period around 950 and 1850. An excavation report on one of England's most extensively investigated parish churches, including a volume on the human remains, was published in 2007. FAQs

How can I get rid of weeds coming through my paving?

You should pull up and remove weeds by hand as and when they appear. If it is a regular problem, you might need to reseal the paving. In extreme cases, the sub layer itself may need to be re-laid. You can use weed killer, however some paving can be discoloured by stronger weed killers.

How to clean block paving without a pressure washer?

While many professionals will recommend a pressure washer to clean block paving, it’s possible to clean your paving without one – just scrub the affected areas with a firm bristled brush and use plenty of soap. Then, rinse off the area with clean water.

How to remove oil from block paving?

Removing oil from block paving can be tricky, and a professional clean and re-point is often the best option. However, for small stains, especially recent ones, it’s worth attempting to clean it yourself. To do this, you can purchase oil remover or driveway cleaning solutions – although be careful, as some may stain or mark certain kinds of paving stones. In general, stay away from acid based cleaners.

Will my patio withstand heavy rain?

Patios use durable and hard wearing materials which will be able to withstand extreme weather. It’s important to consider the drainage of your patio, as heavy rain will need to drain away to an area that can absorb the water. A professional will be able to design and lay a patio to do this.
