Faringdon
Faringdon is a historical market community in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historic borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 kilometres) north-west of Wantage and 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a large church, its lowest parts extending to the River Thames in the north as well as its greatest ground getting to the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost community in Berkshire up until the 1974 limit adjustments moved it to Oxfordshire. The civil church is formally Great Faringdon to differentiate it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census gave a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was provided Fairtrade Town status, as the very first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which assists and also advises services in rural west Oxfordshire.
