Damp Proofing in Honiton

Extensions such as garage conversions will usually require supplementary damp proofing to be added during the conversion, as the pre-existing garage routinely has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will need to be put into walls and floors. Moreover, the roof of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will usually be performed by employing a damp proof membrane. This membrane will come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the existing concrete floor, below the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls will have already been damp proofed, but this might have to be updated as part of the conversion in order to comply with current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed in order to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This is accomplished by either making use of damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already in the garage. Damp proofing is an important part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should adhere to, therefore is it vital to ensure that your garage conversion makes use of appropriate damp proofing methods.

Honiton

Honiton is a market town and civil parish in East Devon. It is positioned near to the River Otter, and is around 17 miles (27 km) north east of Exeter in the county of Devon. Honiton is at the junction of the A35, the A30 and the A373 roads. Honiton railway station is on the West of England Main Line that runs from London Waterloo to Exeter. Honiton has a population approximated at 11822. The town grew along the line of the Fosse Way, the ancient Roman road linking Exeter to Lincoln, on which it was an important stopping point. The site is spoken about in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Honetone, meaning 'Huna's tun' or 'farmstead'. It became an essential market town, known for its lace making that was introduced by Flemish immigrants in the Elizabethan era. In the 17th century, thousands of people produced lace by hand in their homes, and later in the 19th century, Queen Victoria had her bridal gown crafted from Honiton lace, though the dress itself was made in the fishing village of Beer. The town also became known for its pottery. Honiton is host to the yearly Honiton Agricultural Show, a traditional occasion going back to 1890. The Hot Pennies ceremony happens yearly on the very first Tuesday after 19 July in the High Street of the town, and go back to the reign of King Stephen. The ceremony has its roots in the practice of the landed gentry taking delight in throwing hot pennies from windows to local peasants, a seemingly philanthropic gesture causing burns. The custom additionally had the intention of motivating people to take a trip to the town from the surrounding region to participate in a subsequent fair. For all of your home improvements, make certain to find reliable experts in Honiton to make certain of quality.
