Extensions such as garage conversions will typically require extra damp proofing to be installed during the conversion, as the pre-existing garage will typically have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not manufactured to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will have to be added to walls and floors. Furthermore, the roof of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be achieved by employing a damp proof membrane. This membrane will come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls have already been damp proofed, but this may need to be updated as part of the conversion to be able to adhere to current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed in order to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This is accomplished by either applying damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already in the garage. Damp proofing is an integral part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should adhere to, and so is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion incorporates suitable damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Broxburn is a town in West Lothian, Scotland. It's around 12 miles (19 kilometres) west of Edinburgh on the A8 road, five miles (8 km) from Edinburgh Airport, and towards the north of Livingston. The village which later became Broxburn most likely originated around 1350 when Margery le Cheyne inherited the eastern half of the Barony of Strathbrock (Easter Strathbrock) when her father, Sir Reginald le Cheyne III, died. The hamlet that developed around her residence was then referred to as Eastertoun (eastern town) after the land on which it stood. In accordance with population estimates created in 2006, the town has a permanent resident population of around 14,100, which is a moderate growth from the approximately 12,900 inhabitants measured in the 2001 Census. Broxburn now has 2 separate industrial areas, the Greendykes Industrial Estate and the East Mains Industrial Estate, which employ local people. The largest employers are Campbells Prime Meat Limited, Glenmorangie and Broxburn Bottlers Limited (a part of Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd). The headquarters of Kwik-Fit, the car repair business, are also found in Broxburn. The Union Canal goes through Broxburn. It is no longer used as a transport link, but is now made use of for fishing and leisure boating. It has a towpath previously used by the horses which drew canal barges and which is now used as a footpath. Broxburn is home to the junior football club Broxburn Athletic. You will find sports and health facilities publicly available, like a sports centre, library, swimming pool and bowling clubs. For all your home improvement tasks, ensure that you work with vetted professionals in Broxburn to ensure you get a fantastic quality service.

There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
